![]() The submarine is designed especially for this sort of trip with passengers safety and comfort a priority and is worth many millions and so little wonder the trip is not cheap. The whole tour took a little over and hour is extremely well done. You are beneath the waves for about 35 minutes and then gently we ascended back to our real world of light and fresh air. Seeing an enormous moray eel was a fun, but no sharks on this trip!!! The sights to see are the coral reefs, and the various wrecks, very interseting to see, together with the little stories of how they met their fate. On the submarine our guide explained what fish we were seeing during the journey with everyone looking port and starboard and then the pilot would turn the craft so each side got a good view. Outside though shoals of exotic fish and individuals were coming into view. Already forgotten to check the colours but noticed that everthing in the craft appeared to be shades of grey. Then we begin to desend the guide calls out the things we can begin to see and the depth gauge indicates 90-100ft depth and we begin our journey. We find our seats and notice the thick glazing, each seat has its own good sized window, and the comfort air con blowers. More than that, the air-conditioned underwater cabin is spacious. The tour begins with a descent into the crystal-clear waters of Maui, where you can enjoy the tranquility and serenity of the ocean. We are reminded to turn off the flash from our cameras and the lights from our camcorders. The Maui Semi Submarine tour offers an unforgettable underwater experience that combines comfort and adventure. Very slick, very professional, great care taken to get us down the narrow steps to the small but smart looking sub. There is a safety briefing as we cross to the sub and then once we arrive we are called to board in order of largest group first, down to the couples at the end. This is then offered at the end of the voyage to purchase with a CD of images from beneath the waves. We could already clearly see the white sub`s coning tower and hull as she sat in the water some distance away.Īs we boarded the boat, a photo is taken of all the new "submariners" in their family groups. We assembled at the pier and a reasonable sized boat arrived to take us the few minutes to the sub. Children received a little "welcome" bag at the check-in, adults were given a guide to the tour with notes containing the fish we were likely to see. They had already phoned us in our apartment the prevoius day to confirm our booking and when we arrived at the desk our "boarding passes" were waiting for us. It`s opposite the pier and if we had looked carefully we would have seen the sign! They share an office on the main road with a jewellers. The actual check-in is not on the pier, where we thought it was. They also suggested wearing red clothing to observe the changes to colour as you desend. We read a few comments on trip advisor and all said a.m was better for the light. Their were choices of an a.m departure or p.m. I don`t think we saved much if anything booking in advance but probably benefitted in how soon our trip could be. though we could easily have waited to get to the island. We had pre-booked on the internet from the U.K. Our trip with Atlantis Submarines was on the Big Island from Kaliua- Kona.
